We've just finished watching the fireworks over the National Mall from our hotel room window. I love fireworks! What do you suppose firework technicians do the rest of the year?
We went to the organ concert at the National Cathedral this morning with Aunt Judy and then spent the afternoon at her house. I just love their home--there's so much to see and touch and hear the story behind. It's filled with photographs, sketches, pieces of pottery, embroidered samplers, and silk scarves. Her home has all those architectural details that we try to recreate with things from Anthropologie, but it's all original. Crystal doorknobs, pink bathtub, exposed brick walls, multipaned french doors. It's like a treasure trove!
At the organ concert we got to sing the National Anthem and other patriotic songs--all the verses in the hymnal--at the tops of our lungs. We sat in the choir, underneath the 10,650 organ pipes in the cathedral. Incredible. If you're ever in DC on the fourth, make sure you get to this concert.
We're a little behind on our travel books. I think we'll catch up in the morning while Toben finishes up his meetings and then we'll take Toben out to see some sights. He's been cooped up in the Convention Center since we got here.
