My friend Bill is coming to visit tomorrow. And since he loves to cook--and since we talk about food a lot when we talk on the phone--we're going to cook Sunday dinner together. This is something we've talked about doing for years, but since he lives in Oregon and I don't, it hasn't happened. We're going to have a lot of fun!
Here's what's on the menu:
Crostini with warm mushroom spread
Roast turkey and gravy
Twice-baked sweet potato casserole
Green beans with carmelized onions and bacon
"Joanne" carrots
Cornbread and homemade jamBanana black-bottom cream pie
Coffee
Sounds good, huh? I'm going to go put my camera in the kitchen right now so I remember to take lots of pictures.
Audrey and I spent almost four hours at the grocery store today selling Girl Scout cookies. I was able to get my grocery shopping done in that time since some moms came along to help, but there's still linens to be ironed, a table to be set, laundry to be folded, and floors to be mopped...
You must have a secret carrot recipe? Do tell... :)
To answer your email - En Fuego is indeed yummy. It's Mexican (which is our favorite comfort food). It's right on the main strip in Del Mar (on the side of the street closest to the ocean). It has a really unique floor plan, several levels of covered outdoor eating...but lacks an ocean view. I can't quite picture what else is nearby it...but it's one of the southern most businesses on that main Del Mar drag. My in-laws rented an ocean house in Del Mar for a few months, and it was one of our favorite restaraunts to return to. But, I think Poseidon is a bit more "special" and would suit my need for an ocean fix. Where did you live in San Diego? We were in Rancho Bernardo.... (the giant cross on the hill was the mountainscape view out our back doors). So, at least I'm not missing the daily dose of ocean view that I think you enjoyed...

You dinner sounds delicious! I used JOY to find a recipe for braised carrots after you mentioned them in your post a while back. Erika & Ainslee loved them which thrilled me! Have a great dinner and enjoy the company.
