"I've an afternoon to spend in sweet doing nothing...Shall I spend it here where there is a cosy fire, a plateful of delicious russets, three purring and harmonious cats, and two impeccable china dogs with green noses? Or shall I go to the park, where there is the lure of gray woods and of gray water lapping on the harbor rocks?"
I too had an afternoon to spend in sweet doing nothing. I chose the cosy fire (we got about seven inches of snow last night and today) and my one purring cat, a bowl of ice cream instead of russets (though apples would've been healthier), and a snoring dog--and a book. I came across this quote in Anne of the Island and smiled to see one more thing I had in common with red-haired Anne.
I love this particular book in the series and found lots of things to underline again. (Yes, I even underline in novels--can't read without a pen in hand.) At the end Anne has her book of Revelation and realizes her love for Gilbert. And at the end I sobbed and sobbed like always.
You inspired me to begin Anne of GG again. It's been fun spending time with her again. I like people to kiss flowers. :)
How was your dinner and pie last night?
I am a wee bit tired of snow, aren't you? I'm ready for my roses!

I think it's about time I do my yearly-ish reread as well. :) My favorite in the series is Windy Poplars - I think it's because of all the letter writing she does in there, but I can read that as a stand alone anytime.

I've only read the first book. I'll have to read them all (from the library, since I'm still on my book fast).
I got the DVD from the library to watch on my girls' weekend at the beach.

I so love Anne Girl...in fact my daughter's middle name is Anne (with an E of course!). I need to re-read the books, I have a treasured 3 in 1 set that my dad gave me when I graduated.

Loved Anne when I was growing up.....at what age were your girls when you began reading Anne of Green Gables to them?

There is nothing I love more than a cool day(or any day) and a good Anne book! I'm glad you had the chance to read and share the time with her!
