I promised pictures of Emma's new dress a while ago and finally pulled it out of the ironing basket for her to wear to church yesterday (AFTER I ironed it!).
This is McCall's 5419 and it is so very her, don't you think?
(I just love her little angel wings!)
It even twirls--a bit. And, really, twirling is more about the attitude of twirling than the flare of the fabric.
A couple of things:
The fabric came from Hobby Lobby. Emma picked it out. She's moving from a pink girl to a blue one these days.
This is view F on the pattern. I've made view C before. You can see that here.
After all day in the heat, this dress starts to bother Emma a little. The strap rubs on her neck--not sure if I need to make the elastic in the back tighter to hold it up better or what. Any one else made this? Have an idea?
I tried it on for a lark, and a size 10 dress with size 7 length and no elastic in it yet fits me perfectly as a halter. I made a note to straighten the sides a bit and make one for myself. I even have some fabric picked out. Emma and I will be doing some sewing in a few weeks, and I'll be sure to show you how it turns out.
OOOh-- beautiful. And the dress isn't too bad either. Can you make me one while you're at it? :-)

Dear Emma : you're so very pretty !!!
larger straps are usually more comfy in the (big) heat... but then it's not possible on all patterns... the back seems right to me.

so sweet! excellent choice of fabric. and her headband is a great accessory with it.
it draws attention to her beautiful hair!
just a tip for left over fabric pieces,
i took squares of scraps from other projects, and a remnant or two and made a childs patchwork skirt. sewed a small lace trim on the bottom and turned out quite nice.

Oh my word... could that girl be any cuter?! Cute dress! I saw that fabric at "the Lobby" (as my girls call it) and loved it. My Emma is into blue these days too!
