Meet Emma. My baby who is somehow nine, NINE, today! Who will be two whole handfuls this time next year, as Miss Patti (her favorite grownup outside the family because she gets down on her level to talk to her and is always interested in what Emma has to say) is wont to say.
Emma, who loves steak and American Girls and her cat Pumpkin and helping her mom do just about anything and the color turquoise and loves to snuggle and isn't feeling so small anymore and whose hair is long enough for pigtails again and who has the gift of a happy heart and a cute dimple on her nose.
Emma, who finally met her match yesterday in a steak too big for her to finish.
(Yep, she had birthday dinner in her pjs! Wouldn't you?)
We celebrated her special day a day early since her Papa was in town. Donuts and balloons and birthday candles and steak and potatoes and artichokes and a mint chocolate ice cream cake.
And we thanked God for technology that allowed us to have a virtual party with Gran and Aunt Kristen and Uncle Wade and Ava and Tyson. They got to sing to her and watch her open presents and blow out the candle on her cake all thanks to Skype.
But as Papa said, "It's good to be on this side of the screen where the cake is real!"
What a pretty kid, Happy birthday and have a very joyful birthday for this year!
