When we got married, we registered for pots and pans. Boring, shiny pots and pans--just like everyone else's. And while I've wanted new ones over the past almost 19 years, I don't really need new ones. Mine still work fine and look like new.
But a day or two after we moved back to Denver, my mom called and asked if I wanted some she wasn't using anymore. My grandmother's Magnalite.
I said "YES!" before she was even done asking.
I love that I've eaten countless meals prepared by my grandmother in these--even if what was cooked in them was occasionally lima beans or butter beans or black eyed peas. (My grandmother lived in the South, and though it's my heritage, I just can't do them kind of beans. YUCK!)
Knowing they were hers makes me smile every time I use them. Somehow the food just tastes better when there's a history to go with them.
And I will say, the big dutch oven worked perfectly for the delicious chicken pot pie Audrey made for dinner last night.
Looks real yummy. I am getting some kitchen stuff from my childhood this winter when my parents visit. One is a tin shaker that we had cinnamon sugar in as a child. Can't wait for my kids to use it at breakfast!

I have some of my grandparent's dishes - from both side of the family, and like you, I smile every time I use them. Can you share your chicken pot pie recipe?
