We get to spend many Saturday mornings on the deck in our backyard drinking coffee, talking, reading, etc.. That's what we're doing right now. I even went and picked up a half dozen Crispy Cream sugar donuts to make everything perfect. I tell you what; we ate those donuts in about five minutes! We prefer the sugar to the glazed because they aren't quite as sweet. But I digress...
Joanne has been doing just fine since getting back from her adventure in the E.R.. I am now of the medical opinion that her passing out was a combination of Ambien, lack of good sleep and dehydration. Talked to her G.P. a couple of times yesterday and after going over her scans and labs she doesn't feel the need to run any more tests. That's one less trip tot he doctor so we're good with that. Obviously no more Ambien for Joanne and she is going to try to get a couple of bottles of Gatorade in her today and see if that helps.
The girls are in the Springs with my folks (Nana and Papa). They love going down there and this is their last sleepover before Bethany heads off to college. I am so stoked that Beth is going to Whitworth--that's where Joanne and I went. She is keeping the Heim legacy at strong in the Northwest. Love that! If she has anywhere near the experience that Joanne and I had she is in for a really amazing few years.
Jaime and I got to go shoot yesterday. Gran came over to hang out with Joanne so we could go and it was FUN! Jaime is really progressing as a shooter and I am starting to become quite the pistolero myself. We did a little shooting at 50 feet which is a pretty good distance for a pistol shot from standing position. Put all 15 rounds on target from my trusty Beretta M9. Felt pretty good about that. Came home and visited my online ammo supplier and picked up some 9mm for Jaime and I and some .380 for myself. It's amazing how much cheaper is online. Even cheaper than the Walmarts.
Now I will calculate how many people actually care about this last paragraph. o.
Joanne got her weekly massage yesterday. Brook, her masseuse, is so cool and Joanne looks forward to her hour with Brook every week. It really helps loosen Joanne up and gives her something to look forward to all week.
Something else to look forward to: Christy is coming for a visit! Joanne was talking about how much she missed her friend and it dawns on me that I still had some miles left on United. So I called Christy and she was available next week. So I got online with UAL and crossed my fingers that I would be able to find a flight for 50,000 miles...or less. Wouldn't you know it; I found a tick on the exact right days for 20,000 miles!!! That's a total God thing. I have not found a ticket for so few miles in years! So Christy is here Wednesday and we can't wait. Nana helped us get the guest room ready last night and contributed a 120 year-old hand stitched quilt from my dearly departed Cordy. It looks great int here now--a little musty because we keep that door closed but we'll open the window, go after it with some Febreeze and turn on a fan and it should be smelling fresh as a daisy by the time Christy gets here.
We are headed to Cherry Creek State Park again tonight to have dinner with Gran and Papa. They haven't had much of a chance to take the camper anywhere too far from home this summer. They have been so faithful in helping out with Joanne. I have said it about 1000 times but I'll say it again. We couldn't do life without them. So a couple of times this summer they have taken the camper just down the road to Cherry Creek and we come over and hang out a little. Tonight is red beans and rice (one of my favorites!).
Prayer Requests:
1. Praise that Joanne is OK!
2. Sleep, sleep, sleep for Joanne.
3. The girls have had a week and a half at school and so far everything is OK. As a parent to a 13 year old girl I hold my breath for the first couple of weeks. But so far so good! Another praise!
I love it when the praises outnumber the petitions!
Toben
Would love to know where to order inexpensive ammo!

So wonderful that Joanne's episode was easily explained. I hope Joanne and all of you find rest and peace and recuperation and that the girls continue to enjoy their new school year.

So glad ya'll are doing well and are enjoying a nice Saturday! Continuing to pray.

Thanks for the update! Glad Joanne is doing better. One thing I discovered about a week ago is that Gatorade can negatively impact your sleep (obviously coffee does too). The Gatorade shocked me so I thought I'd pass it on if Joanne begins consuming it and has more difficulty sleeping. Blessings.

Karen: Cheap Ammo

I buy 9mm for less than $10 a box and they are great to work with. Always prompt and courteous.

I had no idea one could order ammo online. That's great news!
I'm sure you know of this, but could Joanne try Melatonin? It's natural and over the counter. I have used it and had success. Just a thought...praying Joanne will still find rest.

When I was a child, I watched my Dad and uncle make their own bullets every year before hunting season.
Just thought I'd let you know I'm paying attention!
Love and prayers from the Northwest!

The LORD make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.”

Great post Toben. We can hear your energy again. Through every valley, up every mountain, He is our hope and stay. It is a picture of the overcoming Christian life that each of us is called to. Thanks for the updates. I would venture to say that we all care about every paragraph and every glimpse of all that God is doing! We are healed as we go!

So glad to hear the upbeatness in your 'voice'--much needed good things happening for you after that scare.
Isn't it wonderful how simple joy can be like being able to sit on the deck together and eat donuts?!
Praising God along with you.

I am so glad to hear that Joanne is ok!! Praying for sleep and must say I am a bit envious of Crispy Cream...don't have them where I live and I love the glazed; so sweet. :)
Continuing to cover you all in prayer and love.

Ditto other comments about how great it is to hear you upbeat - not that you were a drag before! Thankful that Jo's episode was short-lived and not a long-term worry and that she will get to spend precious time with her friend this week!
When we were in Colorado this summer, we went to the REI in Denver (a great tourist spot!) and got electrolyte tablets to put in our water. The maker is nuun. I'm not a fan of Gatorade because of the icky sweetness & these tabs were a great not-so-sweet addition to the water. Don't know about Jo's sweet tooth re: drinks.
Continuing to pray! Love from "Hot"lanta!

SO glad Joanne's test results were good. I LOVE hearing you mention Whitworth and it explains your amazing faith. Our son is a sophomore there, daughter just graduated and is student teaching in Costa Rica thanks to "Whitworth South", oldest son got his undergrad & masters from Whitworth and my high school senior hopes to be admitted! I continue to pray for your family. Sending love from Gig Harbor.

I've never commented before but just had to once I saw mention of Whitworth. When I saw that I thought "no, no one ever mentions Spokane in the blog world. There must be another Whitworth." I've lived in Spokane my whole life. :)
I've been following ypur family's story and have been praying and have been so, so overjoyed at what God is doing.
All the best with the college transition. We're not there yet, but soon.
The weather has been very nice here. Summer is trying to stay but the mornings and evenings are very fall like.
