My friend Marla does a thing called "Swirly Saturday" each week and I'm going to copy her, because that's how I'm feeling and I think I've already used every blog title that I can think of with the word "random" in it.

Oh my how much time do we have to talk? I have so many questions...how do you get past the fear of inadequacy that I listed above, how do you become a morning person, can you recommend a really good devotional, when you journal do you just write free form or do your daily entries follow the same format, how do you keep yourself on track with an early morning rising time, are you legalistic about your quiet time, how do you organize and format your quiet time, do you have quiet time every day, if/when you miss your quiet time how do you feel? I think that covers most of my questions.

It was been way too long since Lisa and I have had a back and forth Simplify Me post. But when I read this post of hers here, I just had to comment and let you in on it too.

My mother gave me this book for Christmas and I loved it. So often, I think we tend to look back in time and think that life was simpler then, that if we only lived during the days of Little House on the Prairie or Little Women or Pride and Prejudice that our lives would be easier. We envy Ma and Jo and Meg, thinking that if we had their lives, we'd be happier and less stressed and busy.
The true economy of housekeeping is simple the art of gathering up all the fragments, so that nothing be lost. I mean fragments of time, as well as materials.
True wisdom lies in finding out all the advantages of a situation in which we are placed, instead of imagining the enjoyments of one in which we are not placed.
Do not let the beauty of this thing, and the cheapness of that, tempt you to buy unnecessary articles.
In early childhood, you lay the foundation of poverty or riches, in the habits you give your children. Teach them to save everything,--not for their own use, for that would make them selfish--but for some use. Teach them to share everything with their playmates; but never allow them to destroy anything.

That's my little song for today, sung to the tune of "Camptown Ladies," of course. It's a tune that works for just about any song you want to make up about just about anything. In fact, I may even stay in my jammies and slippers all day too.

But I put on my calendar to take a walk this morning, so I need to go dig Daisy's sweater out of the basement and go. With a hat. And gloves. And a coat. And maybe a hoodie under that.

**Warning! This is ridiculously long!**
So why create a weekly schedule?

One of the first questions I asked her when we started talking was what she wanted from this. Here's what she said:
Simplify to achieve:
1. Accountability through a manageable, sustainable, actionable weekly schedule
2. Dedicated quiet time at least five days per week
3. Dedicated time for relaxation and creativity weekly
4. Dedicated time to exercise consistently three days per week
5. Dedicated time for friends and family (invite friends/family over for a monthly Sunday dinner or evening dinner?)
6. Here is the subjective one...decrease feeling of overwhelmedness (is that a word?!) that has come with a really hectic schedule and a life that feels like it spins uncontrollably from one thing to the next
With that in mind, here's my question for today for Lisa (and for you, if you'd like to play along):
What does a typical week look like for you now?
Think about what really goes on in your life--not what you wish your life was like! Think first about your own self--and then expand it to include your family.
A great way to approach this is to keep a log for a week. Write down what you do and how long it takes. And don't feel guilty if you forget something, just go back and plug it in later. And if you spent 45 minutes reading blogs when you should have been folding laundry, put that down too. We've all done it!
Be sure to make note of when you get up and when you go to sleep. And go ahead and note if something is a weekly thing (like soccer practice) or a once-in-a-while thing (like a birthday party).
What chores/tasks do you do and when? (Again, not that you'd like to change the sheets every Tuesday--only put that down if you actually do it!) How long does it take? If you do a load of laundry every day, or have to run to the grocery store for something you forgot to buy for dinner, make note of that too.
We've all sat down at the end of a week and wondered, Where did the week go? We've all had days that were full and busy, yet we've gone to bed thinking, What did I do all day? Keeping a log for a week is a great way to find out where our time goes.
Need something to write on? Visit Pocket Mod and print out a daily calendar for the week. It folds up small and fits in your pocket so you can keep track of what you're up to.
Or, if you'd rather use something more detailed, you can print a blank calendar PDF here.
And, yes, in case you're wondering, I'm going to keep a log too!
